Metaplanet, a Tokyo-listed firm that uses Bitcoin as its primary treasury reserve, plans to acquire a controlling stake in Nasdaq-listed Super League Enterprise by contributing 2,100 Bitcoin and $2.5 million in cash. The merged entity, to be renamed Superplanet, will function as Metaplanet’s US Bitcoin treasury platform. The transaction, pending shareholder approval and other conditions, is expected to complete in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Super League Enterprise’s shares rose sharply after the announcement, with trading volume surging 95-fold to 37.3 million shares. Metaplanet’s contribution of 2,100 Bitcoin—valued at approximately $135 million at current prices—accounts for about 5% of its total holdings of 43,000 Bitcoin. The deal positions Metaplanet as the third-largest corporate Bitcoin holder, trailing Twenty One Capital by around 500 Bitcoin.
Superplanet will combine Metaplanet’s Bitcoin treasury strategy with Super League Enterprise’s operations in immersive gaming, content, and advertising. Strategy, a corporate Bitcoin holder with over 840,000 BTC, has recently sold Bitcoin to fund dividends and reserves. The transaction highlights growing corporate interest in Bitcoin as a treasury asset, despite ongoing challenges in managing capital flows.
