Trump Media Scraps Crypto Push, Terminates CRO Token Accumulation Plan

Trump Media, Crypto.com, and Yorkville Acquisition have abandoned plans for a publicly traded CRO token accumulation company, citing “prevailing market conditions” and shifting priorities. The proposed venture aimed to accumulate Cronos’ CRO token and generate returns through staking. Trump Media had previously invested $105 million in CRO in September 2025 and transferred 2,628 BTC, valued at $165 million, to Crypto.com.

The CRO token dropped 5% following the announcement, reflecting investor concerns over the scaled-back crypto strategy. Kevin McGurn, interim CEO of Trump Media, highlighted market saturation and strategic realignments as key factors in the decision. The firm’s move follows its broader efforts to pivot toward fusion-energy firm TAE, with which it aims to merge.

Trump Media’s decision underscores broader challenges in the crypto sector, where volatility and regulatory scrutiny have prompted firms to reassess long-term commitments. Yorkville Acquisition, which had partnered on the CRO strategy, did not immediately comment on the termination. The firm’s existing holdings, including 9,542 BTC, remain a significant asset.

Analysts suggest the reversal may signal a temporary retreat from crypto-focused ventures, though Trump Media has not ruled out future opportunities. The firm’s focus appears to be shifting toward its planned merger with TAE, which could mark a departure from its previous emphasis on digital assets.
