Cloudflare Launches Programmable Wallets for AI Agents to Enable Stablecoin Payments

Cloudflare has unveiled a new wallet system designed to allow AI agents to make stablecoin micropayments for digital content and API access, marking a step toward broader adoption of blockchain-based transactions in cloud infrastructure.

The company announced the availability of wallet handles at cloudflare.pay, with full payment features—including onramping and offramping—set to roll out in the coming months. The wallets integrate with Cloudflare’s Monetization Gateway, leveraging Coinbase’s x402 protocol to facilitate stablecoin transactions.

A Cloudflare spokesperson confirmed that users can now claim their wallet identity, though specific details on supported stablecoins or blockchain networks remain undisclosed. The integration with Coinbase’s protocol is expected to simplify access to APIs without requiring traditional account creation.

Will Papper, a Cloudflare software engineer, highlighted in a blog post that the system aims to lower barriers for developers and AI agents seeking to monetise digital services through microtransactions. However, the company has not yet outlined eligibility criteria for users outside supported geographies to self-fund wallets.

The rollout of onramping and offramping features will initially be limited to certain regions, with further details on supported locations expected in due course. Cloudflare’s Monetization Gateway, which underpins the wallet system, is positioned as a potential catalyst for wider use of stablecoins in cloud-based services.
