The Prime Minister of Russia, Mikhail Mishustin, has signed new restrictions aimed at addressing power supply concerns by expanding its existing cryptocurrency mining ban to include Moscow, the Moscow Region, and parts of the Kursk region. The measures will take effect on August 15, 2026, through December 31, 2032.
The Moscow Region Energy Ministry is responsible for electricity management in this area and data center operations, along with eight municipal districts and the city of Lgov in the Kursk region that border Ukraine. These municipalities are also subject to the new restrictions.
