More than 36 bitcoin and crypto companies have sent a letter to the largest artificial intelligence (AI) labs, requesting early access to their most advanced security models, concerned that open-source security researchers are using weaker tools compared to those employed by attackers.
The request was organized by the Bitcoin Policy Institute and signed by prominent industry players including Coinbase, Block, BitGo, and numerous other companies, alongside several nonprofit developer funds. These companies argue that they need access to secure models in order to stay ahead of potential vulnerabilities before they can be exploited by malicious actors.
Security filters designed for malware prevention also block efforts to find flaws before attacks occur, making the urgency even more pronounced for these crypto firms. The letter does not specify which AI labs were requested or the nature of their models, leaving room for speculation and further investigation into the specifics of this collaboration.
