The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has updated its register of MiCA-licensed crypto asset service providers (CASPs), adding six German cooperative banks and bringing the total number of authorised entities to 331. Germany now holds the largest share of CASPs in the EU, with 79 institutions, ahead of France (35) and the Netherlands (29).
The additions include Raiffeisenbank Aidlingen, Ihre Volksbank, VR-Bank Mittelfranken Mitte, Volksbank Euskirchen, VR Bank Ried-Überwald, and Volksbank Backnang, all of which have been granted authorisation under the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulatory framework. Germany’s total number of CASPs rose from 57 in late June to 79, reflecting the country’s strong financial sector and existing licensing infrastructure.
ESMA’s latest update also shows 43 entities listed in the electronic money token (EMT) register, while 167 organisations remain non-compliant with MiCA requirements. Germany’s Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) noted that the nation’s high number of authorisations is partly due to its well-established financial regulations and proactive approach to crypto supervision.
The expansion of MiCA-licensed providers underscores ongoing efforts to standardise crypto regulation across the EU, though challenges remain in ensuring compliance among the growing number of authorised and unauthorised entities.
