Binance Research data reveals a significant shift in trading behaviour among Gen Z users, with exchange-traded funds (ETFs) accounting for 25% of their equity activity in early August. This follows a rise in ETF allocations, from 18.5% of Gen Z net equity inflows in June to 21.9% in July, as younger traders increasingly diversify their portfolios.
The analysis highlights generational differences in trading patterns, with Gen Z averaging 13 monthly trades in TradFi perpetuals—below the 16.5 average for Gen X and 17 for Millennials. Notably, 22% of Gen Z accounts had never executed a sell order, compared with 30% of Millennial accounts. ETFs also saw limited engagement, with 88.2% of Gen Z TradFi perpetual accounts inactive in leveraged or inverse ETFs.
Tokenized stocks, a growing segment of the market, reached $2.7 billion in value as of Friday, driven by platforms such as Ondo Finance, which holds $971.8 million in tokenized assets. RWA.xyz reported a 5% increase in distributed value over 30 days, tracking $2.43 billion in the sector. Meanwhile, bStocks and xStocks saw fluctuating positions, with xStocks briefly surpassing bStocks before reversing by Friday.
Binance cautioned that its direct-equities product, launched in June, may limit the reliability of long-term trend analysis. The data underscores a broader shift in investor preferences, with younger traders prioritising diversification and accessibility in an evolving financial landscape.
