BNB Smart Chain (BSC) has implemented the Pasteur hard fork, introducing measures to strengthen security and expand transaction capacity without altering its block time. The upgrade integrates three BNB Evolution Proposals, addressing gaps in bridge verification and validator authorization while introducing a new block-building mechanism. Internal testing on QANet demonstrated an 88% rise in transaction processing speed, though results were achieved under controlled conditions and do not reflect mainnet performance.
The Pasteur update increases throughput by enabling a parallelised block-building route, raising average gas usage per block from 46.35 million to 84.15 million units. This follows BNB Chain’s prior focus on scalability, with the Maxwell hard fork scheduled for June 2025 expected to further reduce BSC’s average block time from 1.5 seconds to 0.8 seconds. The changes aim to support growing demand on the network while maintaining compatibility with existing applications.
BNB Chain, the entity responsible for the upgrade, has not provided public statements detailing the immediate impact of the Pasteur fork. The hard fork’s activation date remains unspecified beyond being noted as “Tuesday,” with no further details on adoption rates or user feedback available in the current data set.
