Victims of Bitcoin Wallet Attack May Still Have Chance

#### Standfirst

Blockchain researcher Alex Thorn warned about a suspected fourth wave of attacks targeting vulnerable Coldcard-generated Bitcoin wallets, noting almost 449 BTC had been swept in just two and a half hours through transactions affected by the weak-entropy vulnerability. Thorn’s analysis indicated that nearly $24 million was transferred into destination addresses created during the attack.

The latest activity involving replacement-by-fee (RBF) transactions is still unfolding as of reporting, following earlier waves linked to the same weakness in certain Coldcard firmware versions. Coinkite, maker of the wallet, has confirmed a vulnerability affecting seeds generated after March 2021.

Thorn’s findings suggest that victims with pending transactions may have a brief chance to reclaim their funds.
