GSR’s Managing Director of Asset Management, Andy Baehr, outlined institutional applications for tokenization at the Wyoming Blockchain Symposium 2026, including the use of tokenized short-term fixed-income products as collateral. He highlighted the scalability of such approaches, though cautioned that widespread adoption of tokenized equities remains uncertain.
Baehr’s remarks came amid GSR’s recent strategic moves, including a lead investment in Libeara, a tokenization platform backed by SC Ventures, and the acquisition of Autonomous and Architech in March. These steps mark GSR’s expansion beyond its role as a crypto market maker and OTC dealer, which it has operated since 2013.
During the symposium, Baehr acknowledged challenges in crypto lending, such as fragmented liquidity pools and unclear interest rate structures, which he described as key issues for asset managers. He noted that borrowing dollars against native tokens remains costly, a problem GSR is actively addressing.
The discussion underscored growing institutional interest in tokenization, despite lingering questions about the pace of adoption. Libeara’s role in this ecosystem, supported by SC Ventures, positions it as a potential enabler for broader institutional participation in tokenized assets.
