The Cboe BZX Exchange is seeking U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) approval to list a suite of leveraged commodity exchange-traded funds, including 3x daily bitcoin and ether products. The proposed rule change includes three times Gold ETF, three times Silver ETF, three times Bitcoin ETF, three times Ether ETF, three times Crude Oil ETF, and three times Natural Gas ETF, all designed to deliver three times the performance of their respective underlying assets using futures contracts on CME or COMEX with cash and cash equivalents as collateral. These funds would operate under a commodity pool structure rather than traditional ETFs, necessitating specific SEC approval due to their leveraged nature.
The proposed structure is described as an “additional layer” of federal regulatory oversight beyond that applied to physical commodity-based exchange-traded products. Cboe will file a Form S-1 registration statement under the Securities Act of 1933.
