Gemini Receives Full MPI License from Singapore’s MAS

Gemini has secured a Major Payment Institution (MPI) license from Singapore’s Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), marking the completion of its regulatory transition in the region. The license, granted in April 2025, allows Gemini Digital Payments Singapore to operate digital payment token services and facilitate cross-border money transfers under stricter oversight.

The move follows in-principle approval granted by MAS in October 2024, which paved the way for Gemini to establish its local entity. The company had previously operated in Singapore through an exemption, but the new license requires compliance with enhanced regulatory standards due to its expanded operational scale.

Gemini’s leadership has underscored Singapore’s significance as a strategic hub for expanding its services to both retail and institutional clients. The MPI framework grants license holders exemptions from transaction-volume limits while imposing tighter compliance requirements, reflecting MAS’s approach to balancing innovation with risk management.

The licensing milestone reinforces Singapore’s position as a key jurisdiction for crypto firms seeking to navigate a regulated environment. Gemini’s transition to a fully licensed entity is expected to bolster confidence among users and partners in the region.
