Maxime Seiler, CEO of STS Digital, has highlighted a growing disconnect between institutional adoption of cryptocurrency technology and the underperformance of token prices, describing the current environment as a “crypto winter” for prices and an “institutional summer” for adoption. Speaking at the Wyoming Blockchain Symposium 2026, Seiler noted that while Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana trade significantly below their all-time highs, firms are increasingly integrating blockchain infrastructure and trading tools into their operations.
The firm’s strategic partnership with Clear Street, a digital asset services provider, aims to expand 24-6 trading capabilities and enhance institutional access to crypto markets. Bob Rutherford, CEO of Clear Street Digital, confirmed the collaboration, citing the need for infrastructure that aligns with the “global economy’s rapid news cycles.” STS Digital, which acquired Swiss market maker Flovtec in 2024, has also raised $30 million in funding, reflecting ongoing investor confidence in its role as a regulated market-making firm based in Bermuda.
Seiler argued that institutional interest is driving technological integration rather than token price appreciation, with capital flowing into infrastructure, custody solutions and derivatives rather than spot markets. He pointed to the convergence of annualised crypto futures basis toward the risk-free rate as a sign of maturing markets, suggesting that institutional participation is stabilising price volatility. Analysts note that this trend may signal a shift from speculative trading to more structured, long-term investment strategies.
Despite the crypto winter, STS Digital’s focus on expanding trading hours and deepening partnerships underscores a broader industry trend: the separation of technological adoption from price cycles. The firm’s recent capital raise and regulatory compliance in Bermuda position it to capitalise on demand for institutional-grade crypto services, even as token prices remain below previous peaks.
