Market Close: Solana surges as Bitcoin and Ethereum advance

Bitcoin and Ethereum edged higher in late trading, while Solana recorded its largest single-day gain of the period, according to market data.

Bitcoin rose 0.58% to $64,652.26, extending its recent upward trend despite a broadly mixed performance across the cryptocurrency sector. Ethereum advanced 0.77% to $1,912.43, maintaining its position as the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalisation. Solana, meanwhile, surged 1.34% to $76.85, outpacing most major assets and marking its most significant movement of the reporting period.

The performance of Solana contrasted with a modest decline in BNB, which fell 0.19% to $602.84. Other notable gains included Cardano, which rose 0.93% to $0.18, and Dogecoin, which edged up 0.42% to $0.07. XRP, TRON and Chainlink also posted smaller gains, though none exceeded 1%.

Bitcoin’s market capitalisation remained above $1.297 trillion, while Ethereum’s total value climbed to $230.8 billion. Trading volumes for both assets remained elevated, with Bitcoin’s 24-hour turnover reaching $22.03 billion and Ethereum’s hitting $7.16 billion.

Solana’s performance drew attention as its market capitalisation rose to $44.8 billion, reflecting renewed investor interest in the high-speed blockchain platform. The asset’s gains were not accompanied by a significant increase in trading volume, which stood at $1.49 billion for the period.

BNB’s decline, though minor, highlighted continued volatility in altcoins, with its market capitalisation falling to $80.28 billion. The asset’s movement was accompanied by a trading volume of $995.9 million, suggesting limited short-term pressure.

Other assets showed mixed activity, with Shiba Inu rising 0.92% to $0.00 and XRP stabilising at $1.00 after a 0.29% increase. Dogecoin and TRON also posted modest gains, but neither reached the 1% threshold.

The overall market remained characterised by narrow movements, with the majority of major cryptocurrencies trading within a 2% range. No additional assets recorded gains exceeding 1%, and several remained unchanged despite fluctuations in trading activity.
